The two numbers can be represented by x and y. This solution aims to solve for x and y using information given in the question. We know that the sum and the difference of the 2 numbers are 3065 and 947 respectively. Therefore we derive equation 1 and 2 as shown in the workings. By adding equations 1 and 2 together, we eliminate y and solve for the value of x. Using this value of x, we substitute this value into either equation 1 or 2, and we should get the answer for y. Since x and y are assigned by us, it is necessary to answer the question and not leave it as x and y values. The 2 numbers are 2006 and 1059.
