So according to the question, 428 passengers were left. 428 substract 68 to find the number of passengers left before more passengers boarded the train. Thus 5/7 is 360.

Then find the total number of passengers before they alighted at the final stop which is 504 passengers.

504 passengers also equivalent to the number of passengers who boarded at the 2nd stop.

504-84= 420 which is 7/10 of the original number of the total passengers at the beginning. Then find 10/10 which is the original number of total passengers at the beginning.
