In equation, what you do at left hand side, you must do the same to right hand side. So it is equal.
why do u divide by 9
To get rid of 9 on right hand side.
In equation, if you want to find a unknown, for this question, a. So we leave "a" at one side, all other parameters move to another side or left hand side.
So we move 9, ½ and 13 to left hand side.
