i think you might have made a small presentation error in part (a), mary is only x years old but you had 2x, i think that’s why the error got carried forward to part (b), hope this helps!

But if John is 13 years old presently, that means Mary is 10years old presently. However in 5 years time, their total age will be 33years.. (Not 28years as per question)..
heyy! the question said john is 3 years older than twice Mary’s age, so if john is 13
mary is —> 13-3=10
10/2=5( cus twice +3)
then in 5 years they are
(13+5)+(5+5)=28
does this make sense?
