8divide by 4 because there are 4 sets of purple and brown lines? Why minus ➖ 5?

u've got the idea
1 purple + 1 brown = 48÷4 = 12
∵ 1 purple = 5
【 side of square A】 
∴ 1 brown = 12-5 = 7

1 brown is the side of square D, right?
