c) it is because the capillaries have small diameter and is only one cell thick. Being on ECMO makes blood clot happens easier. This can clot up the capillaries, preventing blood from flowing through it to the leg. Therefore, since the leg muscle cannot receive the essential nutrients, it will be damaged and die eventually.
