63+(5×5) = 63+25 = 88
88÷8 =11

The length is 11.

63 is the shaded portion
25 is the area of the square
To find area of the figure, you need to add the shaded portion to the unshaded which is the square.
88 is the area of the figure. So you divide 88 by 8 to get the length and that's how you get 11.
