I'll explain abit here: (key tip-look at the arrows & read the qns)

Basically they had given the inner dimensions which is (48×37×20), and a required you to find the total dimension which includes the extra thickness so to find that, L= 48+1.5+1.5, B = 37+1.5+1.5, H=20+1.5

And for b, do the long way if that's easier to understand :p
