The answer is 3 hours 45 mins
From the time they met (means together at a specific point between X and Y) to the time they were 315km apart, the time taken should be 2 hr 15 min as my working.
It appears that the period starting from the time they were 210km apart to the time they got to the meeting point (210/140 = 1.5hr) had been added to 2 hr 15 min, making it a total of 3 hr 45 min.
I interpreted the question as it was only asking for the time starting from the point they met, that's why I didn't add the 1.5 hr. You may want to clarify.
