hi Lutz,
a)

JH has 1 unit of money at first
2/5 units of money is spent on the bag.
3/5 units of money is left.
1/6 of the 3/5 units of money is spent on the wallet
which is equal to 1/6 of the 6/10 units of money.
which is equal to 1/10 units of money.

-> You can also use 1/6 times 3/5 = (1*3)/(6*5) = 3/30 = 1/10

Answer: 1/10 of the money is spent on the wallet

b)
The bag costs 2/5 which is equal to 4/10 of the money.
4/10 - 1/10 = 3/10 of the money is equal to $87.

JH spent total of 4/10 + 1/10 = 5/10 or half of her money, which is equal to $87/3*5=$29*5=$145
