This can be done using algebra. You can let either Linda or Cheryl's share be x; in my solution, I let Linda's share be x. Cheryl's share would be x + 84. Solve for x to get the answer.

No worries. Algebra can be confusing at first but once you get the hang of it, it will be much faster to solve problems than drawing models. I would recommend all primary school students to learn algebra by P6, because algebra is an efficient way to solve problems and will be very important in secondary school as well.
