Area of Figure 1 = 12 units
Area of Figure 2 = 7 units
Difference in area = 12 - 7 = 5 units
The difference in area is due to triangle XYZ as shaded in Figure 1
Area of triangle XYZ = 5 units
Unshaded area in Figure 2 = Total area - Triangle XYZ
= 7 - 5
= 2
2 units = 54cm²
1 unit = 54cm² ÷ 2 = 27cm²
12 units = 27cm² x 12 = 324cm²
