MB is correct in modifying the expression.

Chloe, what is the question about? Is it to simplify? Or to do what?

It’s to differentiate the expression, correct? But there was no instruction in the question for tutors here to see based on the photo. I cannot assume it’s differentiation - I could take it that it’s a simplification question.

Next time, indicate to tutors clearly what is required of the question.

y = (2 - 3x^2)^(3/2)

dy/dx
= 3/2 times (2 - 3x^2)^(1/2) times differentiate the contents of the brackets (this is the chain rule)
= 3/2 times sqrt (2 - 3x^2) times d/dx (2 - 3x^2)
= 3/2 times sqrt (2 - 3x^2) times (-6x)
= -9x times sqrt (2 - 3x^2)

In this case, we attempt to simplify the expression first so that you could avoid using the more complicated quotient rule.

If you are currently learning chain rule, quotient rule will be taught within the next few lessons. You must learn the chain rule well because this continues to apply for the rest of the differentiation chapters.
