The pattern is : -8, -3, -8, -3,...
Odd to even term number : -8
Even to odd term number : -3
Every jump of two terms, the total subtraction is 11 (-8 followed by -3)
You need the 56th term. From 1st term (odd) to 55th term (odd), it is a jump of 55 - 1 = 54 terms
54 ÷ 2 terms per jump = 27 jumps
999 - 27 × 11 = 999 - 297 = 702
Then from 55th term (odd) to the 56th term (even), we subtract 8.
702 - 8 = 694
Option (3) is the correct answer.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation
Welcome.
Alternatively, you can also choose to jump from the 2nd term to the 56th term (it is also moving forward by 54 terms and 27 jumps)
991 - 297 = 694
