First part of qns you are given the average of 2 numbers to be x. From here, find the total sum of the 2 numbers, which is 2x.

In the next part, the question then tell you the average of 3 numbers is 6. Similarly, find the total sum of the 3 numbers. Which is 18 (3 multiply 6).

Thus, to find the 3rd number in term of x it will be 2x-18. Since, there is no change to the number given in the question from the first part to the second part.
