s - 1 = -4t
s - 1 + 1 = -4t + 1
s = 1 - 4t
Substitute this into the other equation,
3(1 - 4t) + 2t = 13
3 - 12t + 2t = 13
3 - 10t = 13
3 - 10t - 3 = 13 - 3
-10t = 10
t = -10/10 = -1
Then,
s = 1 - 4(-1) = 1 + 4 = 5
