The introduction of Q results in a decrease in the population of T intially since Q feeds on T directly.

The subsequent slight increase in the population of T is the result of Q feeding on R, resulting in a decrease in the population of R. Since there are less predators of T, population of T increases.

Finally the decrease in T can be explained by the decrease in population of R, which then results in an increase in the population of S. Since S feeds on T, this results in a drop in population of T again.
