a) The bread most likely have turned mouldy due to the warm environment in oven.
(assuming, he did not use the oven to toast the bread)

b) To find out if a warm environment is needed supports the growth of mould

changing variable: the temperature of the environment

measured variable: presence of mould after a fixed number of days

constant variable: the type of bread.

If the type of bread used is different, the water content level may vary which can affect the growth of mould since mould needs air, warmth and moisture to grow.

Hope this helps.
