Let John’s age 5 years ago be x years old. Kelly’s age was thus 5/2 x years.
In 5 years time (present day), (x+5)/(5/2 x + 5) = 3/7.
*Get rid of the denominators
7x + 35 = 15/2 x + 15
*Manipulate so that one side = 0
½ x - 20 = 0
½ x = 20
x = 40
John’s age in 2 years from now = 40 + 5 + 2 = 47
