The tables are not square to begin with; there will be more rows than columns. To form a square with the shortest sides possible, you will need to find the LCM of the length and breadth of the tables.

(a) First, perform prime factorization for both values of the dimensions of the table.

42 = 2 × 3 × 7
56 = 2^3 × 7

Then, find the LCM.

LCM = 2^3 × 3 × 7 = 8 × 3 × 7 = 168 cm

(b) No. of rows = 168 ÷ 24 = 7
No. of columns = 168 ÷ 56 = 3
