The equation is in terms of ax^2 + bx + c =0 thus substitute that into the formula to find x (when you cannot use mode 3,3)
You should practice simplifying your surds for this to be easier!
One way to look at it is 12 =2 x 2 x 3.

“Mode 3 3” works only on some models of calculators. I can’t remember if the command for the Casio FX 97 SG Plus is “mode 3 3” or not since I am still using the older Casio FX 96 SG while the newer batch of students uses the Casio FX 97 SG Plus or the other Sharp calculator (EL 531 WS).
