Used 1/3 of it
Note that here it says “1/3 of it” and not “1/3 kg of it”.
If it says “1/3 kg of it”, we know that 1/3 kg has been used amongst the available walnuts, so the mass remaining is 9/11 - 1/3 which you have correctly worked out to be 16/33 kg.
However, here it says “1/3 of it”, meaning to say a fraction 1/3 out of the available walnuts, so this is 1/3 x 9/11, or in other words 3/11 kg of walnuts, being used.
So, the mass of walnuts remaining
= 9/11 - 3/11
= 6/11 kg

2/3 *9
= 18/3 = 6
That means 6/11 kg
