① Length of ribbon in 1 roll = 10m = 10 x 100cm = 1000cm
1000 ÷ 55 = 18 R10
So maximum number of pieces of 55cm-long ribbon you can cut from 1 roll = 18
The remaining 10cm from each roll cannot be used or joined together with the remainders from other rolls to make a 55-cm long piece, since the piece has to be whole.
② Since she needs 150 pieces in total,
150 ÷ 18 = 8 R6
So 150 = 18 x 8 + 6
For 150 pieces , 8 full rolls of ribbon can be used up, and the remaining 6 pieces will have to cut from another roll.
8 + 1 = 9
So she will need 9 rolls of ribbon
