Your first line is incorrect because the question states that "Each marker cost thrice as much as a pen".
This means that 1M = 3P.

Afterwards, your workings are correct except for the one on the top right. (16 x 5 = 80p)

Since you know that 16P = 4/9, solve for the cost of 1P. (4/9 ÷ 16 = 1/36). You have also found that he had 5/9 of his money left. In order to find out how many pens he could buy with the remaining money, you need to take the amount of money he has left (5/9) and divide it by the cost of 1 pen (1/36).
