x = -½ or x = 5
x + ½ = 0 or x - 5 = 0
(x + ½)(x - 5) = 0 × 0
x² - 5x + ½x - 5/2 = 0
x² - 9/2 x - 5/2 = 0
Multiply throughout by 2,
2x² - 9x - 5 = 0
So b = -9, c = -5
x + ½ = 0 or x - 5 = 0
(x + ½)(x - 5) = 0 × 0
x² - 5x + ½x - 5/2 = 0
x² - 9/2 x - 5/2 = 0
Multiply throughout by 2,
2x² - 9x - 5 = 0
