Based on the question info, we can say that in the end,
Red apples she has leftover = ⬛
Green apples she has = ⬛⬛⬛
Next,
Since she gave half her red apples away, she is left with the other half. Number of apples given away = number she is left with
So half of her red apples at first = ⬛
Total red apples at first = ⬛ x 2 = ⬛⬛
Recall that she had 455 apples at first.
If she didn't give any red apples away, but still bought 30 green apples, her green apples becomes ⬛⬛⬛.
She would have 455 + 30 = 485 apples now
But this is the same as:
⬛⬛ (red) + ⬛⬛⬛ (green) = ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ (total)
So ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ = 485 apples
⬛ = 485 apples ÷ 5 = 97 apples
