(3a+1 2b) and (a 4b) are parallel. They have the same direction but differ in magnitude.
Now (a 4b) = 2(½a 2b)
Compare this to (3a+1 2b), we can deduce that (a 4b) = 2(3a+1 2b)
Which means that (½a 2b) = (3a+1 2b)
so ½a = 3a + 1
3a - ½a = 0 - 1
5/2 a = -1
a = -2/5
As for b, any value is possible.
