Repeated identity
7/10 of △A is shaded so 3/10 of △A is unshaded. That's 3 units out of 10 units.
5/8 of △B is shaded so 3/8 of △B is unshaded. That's 3 units out of 8 units.
The two triangles have the same unshaded area.
Since both unshaded areas are already 3 units, we don't need to make the units the same size. They are already the same size.
So,
Total area of △A →10 units
Shaded area of △A = 7 units
Total Area of △B → 8 units
Shaded area of △B →5 units
Unshaded area →3 units
Area of figure = shaded A + shaded B + unshaded area = 7 units + 5 units + 3 units = 15 units
Area of shaded part = shaded A + shaded B = 7 units + 5 units = 12 units
Fraction of figure that is shaded = 12/15 = 4/5
