Oh ignore my solution. When they said "24 bags and wallets", I interpreted as "24 bags" and "wallets".... and not "24 (bags + wallets)". My solution is wrong, my apologies!
Number of bags Sold= (24-8)/2 = 8
The number of wallets Sold : 8+8 = 16

We are also told that cost of 1 bag is $140 more than 1 wallet.

So, we know the number of bags sold is 8.
The total difference in cost of bags, compared to wallets = $ 140 x 8 = $1120

We less off this difference, we get:
$8944 -$ 1120 = $ 7824

This is the total amount of wallets and bags (assuming they are now of equal amount as difference is less off already ), which means the total number of bags and wallets = 24

24 parts = $7824
1 part = $7824/24 = $ 326
This also means that one wallet costs $326

We are asked to find cost of bags, this requires 2 parts to it.
1) we have to take the cost of bags sold without difference to wallet
2) add the total difference of the cost of bags sold versus that of wallets.

From 1) 8 parts = $326 x 8 = $2608
2) total differences of bags cost compared to wallets = 8 x $140 = $ 1120

Total cost of bags sold= $2608 + $1120 = $3728
