We know that the two values of x are of the x-coordinates of points of intersection of the line y = x/4 and y = x²/6 + 12/x - 6
So, at these two points, the y values of both the line and the curve are the same.
So x/4 = x²/6 + 12/x - 6
Multiply both sides by 4,
x = 2x²/3 + 48/x - 24
Multiply both sides by x,
x² = 2x³/3 + 48 - 24x
Bring over terms to the other side,
⅔x³ - x² - 24x + 48 = 0
A = ⅔, B = -1, C = -24, D = 48
