Alternatively,

Two overlapping regions = 390 - 80 - 120
Two overlapping regions = 190
One such region = 95

Length of bench A
= 80 + 95
= 175 cm

Bench A = overlap + 80cm
Bench B = overlap + 120cm

Bench B is 40cm longer than Bench A
(120cm - 80cm = 40cm)

An easy way to visualise this is to turn bench A around and redraw it. The end of bench A is now flush with end of bench B but it is 40cm shorter

390cm = Bench A + Bench B

Subtract 40cm to get length equal to 2 Bench A

390cm - 40cm = 350cm
Bench A = 350cm ÷ 2 = 175cm
