3 m is thought of as 2 + 9/9
So it’s easier for you to do calculations. Hope this helps!

Answer is correct.

I suspect the author forgot that he wrote “2/9 m of the ribbon” and mistook it as “2/9 of the ribbon”.

Had the question been 2/9 of the ribbon, then correct would be (2 + 1/3) m.

The answer key has 2 2/7 as its answer. I can’t figure it out at all....

There are missing information in the question. The only way to get to 2 2/7m is if 5/7m was being used up. Either way, the method of doing so is right, from the way this question is written right now and I think that’s more important. :)
