The flower garden is a square, hence its sides are equal length. The area of a square is its length times its length.

It takes 2 triangular tiles to cover a square of 50cm length on the footpath.

Add 4 more triangular tiles for the corners of the footpath which do not span the sides of the flower garden(see btm left, btm right)

Final number of tiles 256

Multiply the area of the triangular tile by the number of triangular tiles needed to cover the footpath, and u have the area of the footpath.
