Larger square is 12 by 12
Smaller square is 5 by 5
12x12+5x5=169

Hi. Think the answer is 72. When we do trial and error, The area of the bigger square is 81,smaller square is 16. The 4 triangles will be (1/2 x 4x9)x4= 72..so that the total area will be 169. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

As they mentioned 169 is the area of 2 squares and 4 triangles

Then you use 0.5x4x12x5 then u get shaded area of triangles
