3u = y/4 x 3, therefore 3/8 of the number will be 3y/4 ( Ans)

Hello !! with your given question, I am only able to assume that the answer required is in terms of y only. Hence I have done a quick calculation. The key here is to convert the 3/8 of the number to a known relationship (1/2 of a number which we know as y) to get the answer. Hope this helps. Please do comment if you have any question.
