y = mx + c, where m is your gradient and C is y-intercept (the point line cuts y axis)
value of a = gradient of line (select any 2 points on the line and use the formula yo find gradient)
value of b = y intercept
If given a graph to solve simultaneous eqn, the point of intersection which has a coordinate (x, y) is your answer.
y= - 4 is a horizontal line which cuts the y-axis at - 4.
