Question
secondary 3 | A Maths
One Answer Below
Anyone can contribute an answer, even non-tutors.
How to linearise?
y = (a x - b)^2
plotting y against (ax-b)^2 gives a straight line,
but does not help to give a nor b
need to take square root on both sides
either sqrt(y) = a x - b OR sqrt(y) = -(ax - b)
which is correct depends on actual values of y & x.
if use sqrt(y) = a x - b,
compare with Y = mX + c.
plot sqrt(y) against x,
then, gradient m gives a,
and y-intercept c gives -b
