How to linearise?

y = a2 x2 - 2 a b x + b2
y = (a x - b)^2
plotting y against (ax-b)^2 gives a straight line,
but does not help to give a nor b

need to take square root on both sides
either sqrt(y) = a x - b OR sqrt(y) = -(ax - b)

which is correct depends on actual values of y & x.

if use sqrt(y) = a x - b,
compare with Y = mX + c.
plot sqrt(y) against x,
then, gradient m gives a,
and y-intercept c gives -b
