thanks! what happens if at part b only food carrying tube is removed?
Let's see ....
If both Part A and Part B have only food -carrying tubes removed, water-carrying tubes are intact, then the whole plant will have supply of water.
Next, there are leaves above A, between A and B as well as below B. These leaves are able to make food.
Hence the plant should be able to survive.
What do you think?

It's (1) cuz the leaves before part A are big and block sunlight from the leaves below or within part A. So they will wither
Answer: 1
Plants need water, carbon dioxide and sunlight to photosynthesis.
The food carrying tube, phloem, transports food from the leaves to all other parts of the plant.
The water carrying tube, xylem, transports water and mineral salts from the roots to all other parts of the plant.
Above A: Both water and food carrying tubes are cut out at B (B is below A). So, water cannot reach the leaves above A and thus, the leaves will wither.
Below A, above B: (Same as A) Both food and water carrying tubes are removed at B so leaves between A and B will not receive water and wither.
Below B: Both food and water carrying tubes are present, thus the leaves are able to make food and will not wither.
Therefore, leaves above B will wither while leaves below B will not wither.
