the image is not very clear, but looks like printing mistake. since the question says "solve",
so should be (a-1)^2 + 5(a-1) - 6 = 0
method I
let x = a-1
rewrite as ...
x^2 + 5x - 6 = 0
(x-1)(x+6) = 0
x = 1 or -6
a-1 = 1 or a-1 = -6
a = 2 or -5
method 2
expand everything ,,,
a^2-2a+1+5a-5-6=0
a^2+3a-10=0
(a-2)(a+5) = 0
a = 2 or -5
so should be (a-1)^2 + 5(a-1) - 6 = 0
method I
