1 rabbit, 3 monkeys and 6 tortoises (3 tortoises on EACH hand) go to the river.
10 animals went in.
The elephants do not go in.
All the elephants saw the same three monkeys go in, so only three monkeys went in.
3 monkeys held 1 tortoise on each hand.
Each monkey has 2 hands so each monkey holds a total of 2 tortoises.
2 x 1 = 2
3 monkeys would have 3 x 2 = 6 tortoises
Since the rabbit is also going to the river,
Number of animals going to the river
= 1 (rabbit) + 3 (monkeys) + 6 (tortoises)
= 10
See 1 Answer
Each 1 elephant saw 3 monkeys going towards the river, thus total amount of monkeys going to towards the river is 3 times number of elephants which is 9.
Number of monkeys
= 3 x 9
= 27
Each 1 monkey has 2 tortoise as in the question it mentioned 1 monkey has 1 tortoise on each hand, assuming the monkey is walking on 2 feet he has 2 hands to hold 2 tortoise. So number of tortoise would be 2 times number of monkeys.
Number of tortoise
= 2 x 27
= 54
The question never mentioned that the elephants are going towards the river, it only mentioned that the rabbit saw 9 elephants WHILE going towards the river, and the elephants only saw monkeys GOING towards the river, therefore the elephants should not be included in the final answer.
Number of animals going towards the river
= 1 rabbit + 27 monkeys + 54 tortoise
= 82 animals
Hope you understand the explanation! (:
