25% of Y is shaded means ¼ of Y is shaded.
¼ x 4 units = 1 unit
So the common shaded part of X and Y is 1 unit.
Ratio of unshaded X to unshaded Y
= (3 - 1) : (4 - 1)
= 2 : 3
Total unshaded area is 2 units + 3 units
= 5 units
Total shaded area
= area of Z - unshaded area
= 9 units - 5 units
= 4 units
Ratio of shaded to unshaded area is
4 : 5
25% of Y is shaded means ¼ of Y is shaded.
