qn: find a and b
i solved it correctly but can someone explain why b=0 is rejected? then if b is -ve will it be rejected? thanks a lot

If b = 0, then a = 2b = 0 and your denominator in the original expression will become zero.

From the start of the question, you should have actually cross multiplied the expressions, with the a + b sqrt 7 going the other side and the surd from the other side going to the left side.

Simplification will be straightforward soon after.
