Let the difference be a
a = 5.17777...
Multiply by 10, 10a = 51.7777...
Multiply by 100, 100a = 517.777...
100a - 10a = 517.777... - 51.7777...
90a = 466
a = 466/90 = 233/45
Let the known decimal be b.
b = 3.121212...
Multiply by 100, 100b = 312.121212...
100b - b = 312.121212... - 3.121212...
99b = 309
b = 309/99 = 103/33
45 = 3² x 5
33 = 3 x 11
LCM = 3² x 5 x 11 = 495
The other decimal (expressed in fraction)
= 233/45 x 11/11 + 103/33
= 233/45 x 11/11 + 103/33 x (3x5)/(3x5)
= 2563/495 + 1545/495
= 4108/495
(Or 8 148/495 (mixed number) )
