Ate ⅓ means remaining cake is ⅔ of the whole cake.

Mass of remaining cake

= ⅔ x 5kg

= 10/3 kg

Since he cut into pieces of 1/6 kg each,

Number of pieces

= 10/3 kg ÷ 1/6 kg

= 10/3 x 6

= 10 x 2

= 20

Another way :

5kg = 5 kg x 1

= 5 kg x 6/6

= 30/6 kg

= 30 x 1/6 kg

That's the same as 30 pieces.

Remaining cake is the same as

⅔ x 30

= 20 pieces
