Good evening Cheryl! We complete the parallelogram diagram given that the two lengths shown are two sides of the parallelogram.

The resultant force will have a direction which is perfectly to the right. Magnitude have to use your scale drawing, do not use toa cah soh,

If the arrow is stationary, the force on the hand of the archer must be the same as the resultant force of the diagram, but in the reverse direction (westward) because the overall resultant force must be zero.

Need me to draw the diagram?

I will use the "otherwise" stipulation to do toa cah soh, but you should continue to use scale diagram.

cos 40 = horizontal / 70
horizontal = 70 cos 40

Since there are TWO strings, the total horizontal force is 140 cos 40.

sin 40 = vertical / 70
vertical = 70 sin 40

However, the two verticals have the same value but are in opposite direction. These cancels out easily.

So the resultant force is 140 cos 40 N, or 107.246222 N.

In your scale diagram of say 1 cm to 10 N, your length of the horizontal line should be 10.6 cm, 10.7 cm, 10.8 cm or 10.9 cm.
