Try to draw a single line which cuts the curve at P only without touching other points. This line must not be vertical - it should remain outside the curve at all times.

How would you draw the line?

i still dont really understand what the question means tho, because the never say need to draw a line and it isnt clear to me
btw why the line cannot be vertical?

Oh my mistake. When they ask for the gradient of a curve at a point, we need to actually find the gradient of the TANGENT to the curve at that point.

So, we need to draw a line like the one which I have drawn. The tangent line can only touch, but not pass through, the curve to the other side. It’s how the tangent is defined to be like. It’s like a ping pong ball flying into my path. It might scrape my hands by the side (the tangent), but it cannot pass through my hand.
