Observe that the "3y" are the same and they appear as minuses. So, we subtract both equations.

Equation 2 - Equation 1 gives

(11x - 3y) - (7x - 3y) = 21 - 15
4x = 6
x = 3/2

Sub back into Eq 1,

7 (3/2) - 3y = 15
21/2 - 3y = 15
21/2 - 15 = 3y
-9/2 = 3y
-3/2 = y
