= 8/8 - ⅜
= ⅝
⅔ of it is painted red.
⅔ x ⅝ = 10/24 = 5/12

Another way from ⅝ :
Make the numerator of ⅝ and denominator of ⅔ the same.
Remaining = ⅝ x 3/3 = 15/24
⅔ x 5/5 = 10/15
This tells you there are a total of 24 units and 10 units are painted red
10/24 = 5/12 ( simplify by dividing both byb2)
