The -2 multiplier is there to reflect the fact that the coefficient of x2 in the curve is -2.

so in q(x-a) (x-b), the q is always the number in the x^2? like in 6x^2-7x+9, q=6 then a and b is the x-coordinate of points that cut xaxis
Yes, this you need to know. A Maths has this as well in the polynomials topic and it's worse. Degree 3 ones are seen in A Maths, with the exact same approach.
