Since 48 women entered and the number of women increased by 12%,

12% → 48
1% → 48 ÷ 12 = 4
100% → 4 x 100 = 400

There were 400 women at first.

Since ratio of men to women at first is 2 : 5,

We can let number women = 5 units and number of men = 2 units

400 people = 5 units
1 unit = 400 people ÷ 5 = 80 people
2 units = 80 people x 2 = 160 people

So there were 160 men initially.

Total number of people at first

= 400 + 160
= 560

Since the number of people increased by 20%

Total number of people in the end
= 560 x 120/100
= 560 x 6/5
= 672

Number of men in the end
= 672 - 400 - 48
(taking away all the women from the total)

= 224

Percentage of people in the end who are men

= 224/672 x 100%

= 1/3 x 100%

= 33⅓ %

The initial number of women should be 400 instead of 440.

160 x 2.5
= 400
